MIDGETS OVER POWER EB VIKINGS
The Raynham Giant Midgets had a chance to do what no other Giant Midget team has done before....win back to back D3 Superbowl championships. The East Bridgewater Vikings won the previous meeting between the two teams. It seems so long ago that first game of the season back at Bettencourt Field on 9/11. Win back to back, avenge a previous loss....the Giants list of "to do's" was building. These two team are built very similar. Both have a "between the tackles" mentality to which the Giants typically have the edge.
The game would start as the Giants would have it. When EB deferred the coin toss, the Giants received and went on offense. The O-line opened holes and sometimes the running backs created them on their own but at the end of the opening drive, the Giants were in the end zone leading 6-0. The two point conversion was powered in too and the Giants led 8-0. The Giant defense came out strong and held the Vikings opening drive to give it back to the offense.
The second quarter started as EB defense would tighten too and the game began to settle between the 40yd lines. EB would face a 4th and long on offense when a nice cut back run broke free for more than 50 yds to make the score 8-6. In what is always the important two point conversion, the Giants held EB so the score remained 8-6. The Giants began to drive on offense and again drove all the way into the end zone to make the score 14-6 (2pt failed) going into halftime.
The Giants would kick-off to start the 3rd quarter and the defenses would again square off at mid-field. It would be another 4th and long the produced a long scramble run for EB that found the end zone once again. With a QB keeper that converted the 2 points....the game was tied 14-14. The Giants offense needed to come to life and would. How else but between the tackles. The surprise was that it would be a 30+yd run that would break free to score. 2 point conversion slams in and the Giants led 22-14. In a must stop situation, the Giant defense rose to the occasion and stuffed the EB offense. The Giant offense would have to make some first downs to run out the clock and did just that to avenge their previous loss and become the first Raynham Giants Midget team to win back-to-back D3 Superbowl titles.
